Gold found in Macedonia

Gold treasure unearthed near Aegai

A golden wreath was unearthed in the Macedonian capital of Aigai. Aegai was the capital of Macedonian kings and the tomb of Philip II (359-336 BCE).

The AP article indicates that it was in a large coper vesel, and it was buried in Aigai marketplace.

Archaeologists must explain why such a group ... was found outside the extensive royal cemetery," the university statement said. "(They must also) work out why the bones of the unknown — but by no means insignificant — person were hidden in the city's most public and sacred area."
